Q. What is your current position with the Industry?
A. Production Geologist based in Denver, Colorado working on a tight gas
field in the Rockies.
Q. Where did you obtain your undergraduate/graduate degree(s)
and in what fields?
A. Undergraduate degrees from Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts
in Geology and History; graduate degree in Geological Sciences from the
University of Colorado at Boulder
Q. What subjects/courses were instrumental in helping you
gain your current position?
A. Sequence stratigraphy, fluvial and marine depositional systems,
stratigraphy, sedimentology, structural geology.
Q. How many years of education were needed in order for you
to enter the industry?
A. 7 (4 undergraduate, 3 grad)
Q. Were any summer internships or advanced learning
opportunities helpful in entering the industry?
A. Yes, very much so. Internships are a vital part of entering the oil and
gas industry. If at all possible they should be pursued while in school.
Q. Does your current position allow you to travel? If so,
what was your favorite location?
A. Yes, to Wyoming.
Q. What opportunities do you see for yourself in the
industry?
A. Improving technical competencies, personal growth, travel.
Q. What are some of your favorite aspects of your job?
A. Extremely interesting work, great people, cutting edge technology
Q. What are some of the most surprising aspects of your job?
A. How diverse my work really is, I don't have a job where I'm doing the
same thing over and over again, I do many different things.
Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A. Being able to directly impact the bottom line of the company and having a
lot of responsibility.
Q. What are some of your interests outside of your position
responsibilities?
A. Recruiting on campus for summer interns and full time hires.
Q. What is the most exciting technological tool that you have
either used or helped to develop in your job?
A. The 3D visualization center.
Q. Do you speak any foreign languages? If so, were they
helpful in your position?
A. Yes, but they are not helpful in my position yet.
