Q: What is your current position within the industry?
A: Project Engineer
Q: Where did you obtain your undergraduate/graduate degree(s)
and in what fields?
A: Oklahoma State University: BA Civil Engineering, MBA with construction
project management emphasis
Q: What subjects/courses were instrumental in helping you gain
your current position?
A: The engineering degree as a whole: good communications skills also help
(writing and speaking)
Q: How many years of education were needed in order for you to
enter the industry?
A: Some people finish in 4 years. I took 5 for my undergraduate degree and
enjoyed college.
Q: Were any summer internships or advanced learning
opportunities helpful in entering the industry?
A: School is great for teaching you how to think, but it’s much better to see
real-world applications to grow your practical knowledge. Practicality will get
a person much further than only theoretical knowledge.
Q: Does your current position allow you to travel? If so, what
was your favorite location?
A: I do travel. I don’t have a favorite…yet.
Q: What opportunities do you see for yourself in the industry?
A: With engineers in high demand, the opportunities are endless. I think that
I’ll be able choose my path, whether it be technical, in management, or another
area.
Q: What are some of your favorite aspects of your job?
A: The people are the best. They make a grueling job bearable and a good job
great!
Q: What are some of the most surprising aspects of your job?
A: Things are so busy right now, that I can seek out projects that really
interest me (aside from those that are urgent).
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A: It’s great to design something and then see it come together; idea to
reality.
Q: What are some of your interests outside of your position responsibilities?
A: I do all sorts of things: play sports, sing/write/play music, explore new
places, explore new foods/restaurants, cook/bake.
Q: What is the most exciting technological tool that you have either used or
helped to develop in your job?
A: Spreadsheets are a wonder for calculating and modeling situations that would
otherwise be daunting tasks.
Q: Do you speak any foreign languages? If so, were they helpful in your
position?
A: I do not speak another language fluently, but I think it would definitely be
helpful, especially for those traveling to other areas to work.
